Academic Assistance programs are free for all students of the Donegal School District and surrounding areas. REYS desires all children to have the opportunity to succeed academically. REYS offers two Academic Assistance programs: Tutoring, and Backpacks to School.
REYS TUTORING
Our main goals are:
- Increase homework completion and comprehension
- Improve reading comprehension
- Create healthy study and planning habits
- Open opportunities for higher education discussions.
Students in 6th-12th grade can participate in our 1-to-1 tutoring with volunteers who specialize in secondary education. All 1st-5th grade students who participate in Kids Club can bring their homework during Kids Club program.
BACKPACKS to SCHOOL
Our annual backpack drive started because of one student’s desire to help his classmate. The students were involved in a homework program, and they could earn points to get prizes. There was one student who was saving all his points, and when asked why, he said that he was saving it for a friend who did not have one. Since then we have given out around 600 backpacks a year to people in the community. We have partnered with many businesses and churches around the area who collect backpacks for the annual drive.
